Overall, it was a solid debut for Rico's Get Better League, which joins the Say No Classic on the summer college scene in Southern California. 1: Rico's Young Franchise Boys 77, Rico's Heat 75 Lorne Jackson (Simi Valley/Pepperdine) drained a 3-pointer with three seconds left, capping a frantic final few seconds in the Rico GBL's first game, giving his team a 77-75 victory.
Jackson's 3-pointer came moments after Rico's Heat had taken a 75-74 lead when Justin Archie (Inglewood/West LA) stole the ball from Jason Pruitt (Artesia/View Park Prep) and scored the go-ahead basket with 12.1 seconds left. That steal capped a final-minute comeback as Rico's Franchise Boys had what appeared to be a secure 72-68 lead before Hamid Ford (Animo/Findlay Prep/Texas Southern) knocked down a 3-pointer to make it a one-point game with 19.9 seconds left.It was an entertaining game from start to finish, with neither team leading by more than 9 points all game. Rico's Young Franchise Boys held a 41-32 lead early in the second half, only to see Rico's Heat rally to tie the game at 55 with about 8 minutes left. Rico's Young Franchise Boys again pushed out to a 71-64 lead later in the half, but saw that lead evaporate with Archie's last-minute steal, only to be saved by Jackson's game-winning 3-pointer.
